THE 2016 NHS FOOTBALL CAPTAINS

NHS Captain Brian Toolan
Position: OL/ LB
2015 Junior Season: Brian was selected by the Newburyport Daily News as a regional All Star for his performance this past season. He had a receiving touchdown and a fumble return for a touchdown helping to spark Newburyport’s huge win over Saugus in week 10 ... Was a stout, run-stuffer at linebacker all season long for Newburyport ... Came up huge with a stop Amesbury’s Adam Incontri on a two-point conversion attempt in overtime to seal the huge, come-back win on Thanksgiving.
On Defense: 58 total tackles; 1 INT (10 yard return); 2 TFL; 1 forced fumble; 4 fumble recoveries including a 32 yard 'scoop and score' against Saugus; 1 DEF TD; On Offense: 1 Reception for 9 yards and 1 TD; 4 rushes for 9 yards.
2014 Sophomore Stats: One of Team leaders in tackles; 1 TD Punt Block Recovery; played in 8 games.
Brian stepped up his game this year and along with his brother, became the vocal leaders of the team. A throwback style player, who commands the defense well as a sophomore. Brian will have to establish himself early next season as a durable two way player that the Clippers will count on to lead the defense. Notable games included Ipswich, where Brian recorded over a dozen tackles, a forced fumble, a blocked punt and a TD on a block recovery.

NHS Captain Nick Toolan
Position: OL/ LB
2015 Junior Season: Unfortunately Nick suffered a season ending knee injury in game one of the Clippers season against Lynnfield. Although not on the playing field, Nick was a voice in the locker room and sidelines as a leader this past season.
2014 Sophomore Stats: One of the Team leaders in tackles; played in 9 games
Nick also played well this past season as a sophomore. Notable games included North Reading, where he and his brother were heard throughout the stadium and leading the vocal and physical charge; and Amesbury, where Nick recorded over ten tackles and made several key blocks. Like Brian, Nick is also a tough, physical kid who plays with tenacity on defense and is counted on in the trenches on offense.

NHS Captain Rob Shay
Position: QB
2015 Junior Season: Rob's first year under center got better and better as the season progressed and he became more comfortable with the system. His vision as a passer and touch on the ball was evident during his performance during the final four game stretch; completing over 40% of his passes for 350 yards and 2 touchdowns. On the season he completed 47 of 120 attempts for 614 yards and 5 touchdowns. On the ground he added another 3 scores and 2 2-point conversions. All of this came after losing his preseason number one target, fellow junior, WR Jack Calahane who also returns for the Clipper next season.

NHS Captain Ryan Tamayoshi
Position: LB/ OL
2015 Junior Season: 16 solo tackles in 8 games, however, as a middle linebacker, Ryan made plays stuffing run lanes and taking on big offensive lineman. He also assisted in an additional dozen tackles on the season and was a welcome addition on the offensive line, adding even more quickness to a young undersized line.
2014 Sophomore Season: Ryan began his sophomore campaign as a promising inside linebacker for the Clippers. Early in the season, he suffered a 'fluke' leg injury as an opponent rolled over his leg from behind. This injury sidelined Ryan and he made a nice recovery working on strength and conditioning throughout the off season.
